• The Vocational Training unit is a logical follow on of the Special Education unit and offers training in making papier-maché and handicraft items.
• Initially meant for adolescents and adults from the age of 14 upwards, today this unit functions in an integrated set up with both normal and disabled working together. Many trainees are refered from our own Special Education Classes.
• It is geared towards income generation and income through sales at differnt venues and at different festivals, and this is shared among the trainees.
• In an effort to make this unit self-sufficient, we have merged it with the Mothers Group, which also undertakes small income-generating work. The result is that we have work of better quality, faster production and more sals opportunities.
• The positive spin-off has been the strengthening of the Mothers Group and incentives to start more activities as well as gradual inclusion of the community at large.
• Our future focus is to make this unit a completely income-generating unit so that the larger part of SAMADHAN's expenses can be covered through it. It also has the potential of becoming a truly community-based initiative using locally available manpower and resources.
